While registered as a horror, expect more of a creepy thriller and thought provoker. It is tough to give a feel for the film without spoilers, but I’ll give it a good go.

Ironically, confusion has always been a good way to get a viewer’s attention, and at points during this film, you stuck with the build-up just so you weren’t left behind. The way you would tend to dabble between whether what was happening was real or whether it was imagined was very gripping.

Credit must also be given to the performances of leads: Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood, their on-screen chemistry and intriguing dynamic grounded what was an eccentric scenario. In addition, the time in the film concerning real issues and trauma made for a surprisingly teaching segway in the narrative. This was writing that took you into several different genres and directions.

My criticism in a subjective sense is that it did seem to jump between realism and fantasy, confusing at times, but certainly interesting. The one scene setting, and simplistic context is entertaining for some, but boring for others. All you can say is Stephen King’s creativity and imagination is so impressive in making such a concept work.

Based on the fact that there were times where your attention would be diverted during extensive build-up, the rating drops somewhat.

Rating 6.5/10
