‘100 Ball Cricket’ was a pilot test run at county cricket which has been pitched and scorned at publicly by many writers and players. It perseveres the latest theme which is reducing delay and the general length of the game. This includes the aim to remove the delay between balls and a simpler scoreboard.

Robin Hobbs, a former leg-spinner, had only bad things to say about the format, describing it from the start, as ‘an absolute farce’

“They’re looking at an age group between 4–12 years old, but a lot of kids of 6 or 7 they go to the 20–20s anyway, it’s highly successful.”

“It got off to a slow start the 20:20s, but now it’s so popular, the grounds are full at every country cricket ground.”

The Hundred, along with 3 other new competitions is set to go ahead next year despite backlash and controversy, and it will include all 18 first-class counties.

Whether the concept is positive, according to Robin Hobbs, the idea has not been received well and is an unnecessary innovation on the 20–20s.
